njc.corp dont put too much thought into our comments about the post coming back TTT... In no way was I insinuating you did it intentionally. I just thought it was funny it happened the same day the car finally hits the track after almost four years of BS..... We are all happy for Bobby and Morgan that they FINALLY have a car that can make some 1/4 mile passes and make it back down the return road under its own power

I was not insinuating at all that you brought it up for any malicious reasons. To give everyone an understanding of how long its taken no thanks to Futral.

I started college 2 months before this project started. I have 15 more hours until I graduate with a BS in Business Administration and Supply Chain Management.

My father and I were told that delays and problems were OUR fault. That we blew up the motor, that WE picked the wrong transmission etc...We knew however that this was not the case and I think this proves it. Its an absolute joke how much more the car has in it. Its making almost 200hp less, 200lbs more weight, and WAYYYYYYYY less timing, but it runs faster. Even better than that, the car RUNS! Its gonna be MUUUCH faster if not this season DEFINATLY next season.

We are just a couple guys that love cars and its just sad that in 4 years our lives have changed so much that we barely even have time to enjoy the damn car now. Hopefully when I graduate things will be different. It puts a grin from ear to ear for me to see that car make a pass.

Isn't this the motor that just got rebuilt over at Proline, with that new low profile drysump oil system??? Congrat's on getting the car running again.

Yes it is. They did a good job on the build. The video was the first pass 1/4 mile. Several problems with the suspension> bent the wheelie bars and had to remove them so had a problem getting out of the hole, too much air time. All the timing is set very low and on the safe said for now. Getting the suspension fixed this week so back to the track while we still have good air and tracks. Being NA good air means everything. The set up is still the same but more weight and different tuning.

So what ended up being the problem with the motor? I just read all the pages, but maybe I missed it. What a terrible story, but im glad you kept with it and that this didn't kill your enthusiasm for the sport. Anyway let me know what happened and if you got the final results from the second tuner and his opinion. Good luck!

Here is the update:

Motor got rebuilt with an LSX block and a new set of pistons. Less compression, only 20 degree of timing, new tuner, same horsepower, runs perfect. Car has had many dyno pulls, industrial park romps, about 10 passes and no issues with spark plugs.

We will have more times soon. Its been the winter and we got some new **** to play with. LSX was too heavy, had to go back to C5R.

Now that we have a motor that works as it should we are finally geting down too the nitty gritty. We have made 3 trips to the track. Off the top of my head the last time at the track (October) went about like this:


9.33
9.28
9.26
9.21
9.16 @ 147.9

I dont have the time slips in front of me so I cant recount the MPH exactly, it was a few months ago.

Transmission/Torque Converter:

Amazingly the same stall converter and transmission (TCI) stalls correctly now.

Only changes we made:

Pistons to lower compression
New Tuner & Engine Builder (www.prolineraceengines.com)

With a little help from Vengeance (www.vengeancerd.com) and Proline we will be racing in a month.

I still firmly believe it was originally built with way too tight of clearances and the tune didnt help. I am still pissed that it was blamed on all these diferent reasons, including my father and I. Amazingly the motor doesnt blow up, spark plugs dont burn, stalls fine, and cranks everytime.

Im happy, were happy, car runs, car is fast, economy sucks, War Damn Eagle!

Dream is coming true. Car just went 8.96 @150.5 Turner has done an excellent job and the results speak for themselves. Made ten plus 1/4 mile run Friday 4/17/09. Made three 1/8 mile getting lic. for going fast haha. Still have some small problems with other things breaking, shifer weld in floor board. comp cord for laptop, crank speed monitor small problems BUT NO MOTOR problems at all. Have made 19 plus runs on the new motor with the same plugs. Still using same trans, convertor that I started with three years ago, go figure

Last time I saw it make a pass it was real close.... how much more does Steve think it's got in it?

He beleives it will run 8.80's with a little more work. Possible conv change to make it a little more loose, tweeeeeeek the suspin a little for the 60 foot and more of his magic. It has been a long ordeal but making headway.
