Default Replace bearings or not?

I was able to pick up a low mileage 15,000 mile long block from a very trusted friend. The motor has been dissassembled for the past 2 or 3 years just waiting for a build up project. I recently through a rod so I went ahead and just bought the long block from him. It already has a fresh hone and all components were checked for roundess. Here are my questions...

Do I need to replace the main bearings if they look fine?
Do I need to replace the rod bearings if they look fine?
Given that I can reuse the bearings is simply checking bearing clearances and using a plastigage ok?
Other than the typical you might as well while your there response are there any legit reasons as to why the bearings should not be reused?

I plan on replacing rings because I know how they can get after sitting for a while so I plan on running stock gapping with most likely a Total Seal moly ring set but I figured I could save $180 for something else if I really didn't have to reuse the bearings. I'm assuming cam bearings were done with block work also which is why they were not mentioned.

if they are still in the factory tolerances and dont look scored id feel okay reusing them, but if you have any doubt replace them. I use a dial indicator to check bearings

Any way you could make me a drawing with paint on how to use a dial indicator to check them. I've used the indicator when setting up rear ends before so I know how it works and the one I use is magnetic. I just can't picture how you would check bearing clearance with one.
