wasted spark ignition on ls series engine
can i retrofit a wasted spark ignition to a ls series engine ?
i mean are there allways 2 pistons at tdc at the same time ? (one in exhaust stroke and one in combustion stroke)
the heads were off the engine but i forgot to check that
i'm not really into the v8 engine layout...
thanks, Jeejee

I would suspect that even with a mild 220/220 114 cam you would run in to a little issue with the intake stroke seeing a fire. 220/220 on a 114 ICL is at 20.5* BTDC with .006" lift and .050" is at 4* ATDC. Move that same small cam to a 112 ICL with 2* advance and your at 24.5* BTDC for your .006" and 0* for .050"
I'm no expert, but I would think you might cause either back firing or some weird burn before even filling the cyl...

the thing is
I allready HAVE an ecu and an engine without ANY electronics / coils
and the ecu can not be upgraded.
so thats why i want to know if someone has used wasted spark before
i dont think the stock engine uses wasted spark because you would NOT need a cam sensor for that, and all the coils seem to have a direct and seperate wire to the stock ecu
(and i know that from an other engine and not mine because i have no coils and stock ecu...)

well motec ECu's run alot of the racing LS engiens out there and they often run wasted spark. might be wroth giving a sponsord engine builder that deals with these type of engines and ECU's a call. someone like Katech??

you will be fine, just for your information
take you firing order and split it in half
1843/6572 and now you have your companion cylinders
1-6
8-5
4-7
3-2
one will be on tdc at th top of the compression stroke ready for firing and the other will be on the top of the exhaust stroke.

i was sure someone would catch that but it doesnt matter what the firing order it all works the same. i am aware of the different firing order but i was just trying to give an example.

ha that could well be possible, some time ago i was looking into fitting an m70 (bmw v12 for non bmw affiliated people) in another project car of mine.
because of small v angle, all aluminium, dirt cheap <$1000, and ready for some boost (8.8:1 com ratio), so i was looking at all kinds of bmw sites for more info / pics on the M70 engine, and might have come across this picture
you want me to remove it ?

(Love the LSX) motors, wish we could have as much fun as you guys!)
FYI... that's the M73 5.4l V12 in a 750iL converted to a 6-speed manual. Details on the project: [ CLICK HERE ] and more pics of the driveshaft destruction: [ CLICK HERE ]
