Default 2000 Trans Am leg room

Hello,
I picked up my 00 NHRA Trans Am on Friday. Awesome car, but I have a complaint about the seats. It has the power leater seats. They do not seem to go back as far as the cloth power seats in my 94 Z28 did.

Is it in my head or may there be differences?

Has anyone examioned the seat brackets to see if the seat can be moved back another inch or two? Maybe some bracket extensions could be made up and new holes drilled? I'd like to get the seat back another 2 inches from where it is now.

Thanks for any ideas,

How tall are you?

I'm 6'4 and I don't even take the seat all the way back.

If you're 6'6" or taller, you can straighten out the ends of the brackets and get another 1-2" or so out of them. I've seen it done, but I'm not super-tall-enough to need it. You could definitely use it if you're 6'6"-6'10" though.

Forgot to say... I'm only 6'1".

I don't know how 6'4" people could fit in my car!!!

Maybe there's something up with my seat that is causing it to not go back all the way.
It feels like my knees are bent more than they should be. Due to that fact I can't tilt the steering wheel down as far as I would like to or it hits my knees.

In my 94 Z28 I could put my left foot on the dead pedal and get it almost straight. In this car I can't come close to straight.

Something doesn't seem right. Any ideas?

Thanks,

I don't know, that's a bit weird. I don't have a TA (I have an SS) but I don't think it matters at all. I can straighten out my leg on the dead pedal fine, without the seat even being all the way back.

I think the secret is seat position. I have my seat as low down as possible, and almost all the way back (about 1" from the back). I recline the seat so that the part under my thighs is kinda pushing up a lil bit. Then adjust the seat back so you're relatively upright. It's really comfortable, even for big road trips. I found without reclining the seat like that, my legs are more cramped (and unsupported) and I would get uncomfortable after 30+ mins.

The only reason I don't have the seat all the way back, is because in the reclining position, the steering wheel was almost too far away. I couldnt' reach the top of the wheel without leaning forward.

*shrug* Unless you have unusually long legs for your height, you WILL find a good seating position. You might not have to even put the seat all the way down to the floor either, I do because of my height (I can fit in the car with my helmet on, just barely).
