i want to, but am affraid of causing harm to the suspension or what not. what would you guys recommend doing (what type of set up)?

There's no "damage" to your suspension caused by lowering. The only thing you need to realize is to lower the car and retain the same functionality your car has now, you aren't just buying springs, you'd also need lower control arm relocation brackets and an adjustable panhard bar to retain the proper rear end geometry.
