x2, black with white images will jump out and the contrast will look sharp. Great work!

I appreciate the Camaro switch suggestion, but unfortunately they won't work.

Here's why:

Sooooo, question #2: can anybody point me in the right direction towards having the T/A switches re-printed after they're dyed? Links? Resources?

Thanks.

Nope, total amateur. And that's a big part of the reason why I'm making this writeup: if a complete noob like me can do it, then anybody can.

i say just dye them and leave them, you'll know what each button controls. If it bothers you that bad, have someone "custom print" you something on there. I mean hell, completely custom door skins and inserts with custom covered armrests... it only seems right.

If you can't find black switches, and you really want black switches, here is a thought:

would it be possible to have kinkos, or some other printer, and transfer the icons on your switches - from this picture - to vinyl film with a sticky back? Doing this would create a stencil of the image that could be transfered to the switch.

Then you could place stencil on the switch, paint it, and peel off the stencil and presto, new icon that is not worn from use like the one in the picture.

If you wanted a black switch with a white icon you would paint the switch white, place the stencil on the switch, then paint it black, peel it off and you would have created a black switch with a white icon?

You could also use photoshop to create a custom icon if you wanted something different.

Make sense?

My biggest thing wouldnt be the picture. it would be having it light up. The switches do light up from factory if ur bulb isnt burnt out.

The buttons don't light up from factory.. They just have a light above them to light the switchs up..

if the buttons don't light-up, and you want them to light up, couldn't you cut a rectangle in the switch, insert a piece of clear plastic in the switch, place a led light under the switches, and have a working set of switches that light up?

It is a little bit of work, but it is the same concept that is used in many new cars. It would take a bit if work, but if that is what you are looking for, seems possible.

you can take the buttons to a sign shop and have them make a stencil of that design then use oneshot paint or something like that to paint the design in.

A while back I thought about using the entire button assembly from a vette, they look much nicer. I know the wiring would have to be changed, but Im not sure how they would fit. Just a thought.

Great job. If you really want light up switches, there was a guy that was attempting to make them a little while back. Basically he took the stock switches and used their impression to make a positive mold. Then he filled it with a material and placed an led in it so when it hardened the light would be in there. Then all you have to do is worry about painting it. Good luck with everything.

Having already done a complete makeover like this to my car (though not with snakeskin/suede...it's not my thing), I know very well the patience it takes to do it right. So I commend you on your work, it looks great. I did mine in all leather (torch red/graphite), with torch red stitching. The armrests are a pain in the *** aren't they?

Are you planning to do anything with your A-pillar covers? I did mine with a double stitch straight up the length of them, and it looks phenomenal. I'd highly recommend it to you.
