Default Blacked out tail lights results

It was real easy to do and I'm happy with the results. Side markers, the wing, and turn signals are for another day.

i did something on my Z and my T/A that i think everyone should do when blacking out 3rd break light.. instead of covering up the whole tail light... leave two slits right where the light bulbs are, make the lines as thick as the masking tape is... if you want more info i have pics and can tell you what i did...

makes it look blacked out but when you hit the breaks its just as bright as regular, and looks cool cause no one else has it done...

tails looks good though man!

You will need:

1-2 cans of VHT Nite Shades (depending on how much you will do)
1-2 cans of clear top coat for auto
1000 grit wet sand paper
Spray bottle filled with water
Newspaper to protect the floor

1) Remove the tail lights
2) Clean them and make sure there is no oil, grease, or grime
3) Spray them with water and also get the sand paper nice and wet
4) Sand the the tail lights in a circular motion, making sure to get every spot
5) Wipe down with a clean rag... if there is still shiny spots, then repeat steps 3-5
6) Place tail lights on newspaper after they are all dry
7) Spray one light coat of VHT Nite Shades and let dry 2-3 minutes
8) Spray a second coat, this time thick enough to make them look wet, but not too wet or this stuff will run
9) Wait 2-3 minutes between each coat... I did 3 or 4 coats, but it is your call
10) Let dry for 45 minutes to an hour
11) Spray one quick, light coat of clear top coat
12) Wait about 5-10 minutes between each coat... do 2-4 until it looks shiny like a brand new car
13) Supposedly dries to the touch in an hour, but if you can, let it sit as long as possible. DO NOT MESS WITH THE TAIL LIGHTS BEFORE YOU HAVE TO! I COULD NOT TELL YOU WHAT TO DO IF YOU LEFT FINGERPRINTS OR SOMETHING!
14) I let mine dry about 5-6 hours on a cold day. It takes 24-48 hours before it completely cures!

It would "work", but I don't know how much light would show through. Do it at your own discretion!

Lemons12, I know what you're talking about, but could you post a picture so I can see how it looks? That might be a good idea as far as safety...

Did the VHT to my from blinkers and light comes through very well. And they look black when they are off. (now I just have to take them out to fix the one that fell over when I rushed the process )
