Re: Smaller Antenna??
I cut mine off short, then installed a small bead off a silver necklace onto the top.
I was told the little ball would come off, then go back onto the shortened antenna. I couldn't get the little ball off though.
The bead I used was the same size as stock, but it was 'flying saucer' shaped for a lack of a better discription.
A couple light coats of semi-gloss black paint and it looks great.
Good luck
Dave

Re: Smaller Antenna??
How about take it off completely and get an internal antenna for it? The antenna is really for AM stations. Doubt you use that very often.
You can have a body shop fill in the hole and it will give a nice clean look to the car.

Just take a pair of good cutters.. determin how long you want the antenna and snip it off. get a very small black rubber vacume cap and slip it over the end of the shaft.
Or get a small brass ball from Home Depot and drill the right size hole half way through it and slip it on the end.. paint black to match.
Whole project should only cost you about $2 -- heck you can buy a donor antenna (for long trips out in the boonies) for $10 from GM..
Hope this helps.

power antennas just look cleaner.
The 69 will have NO antenna.. it will have a under dash hidden one like the street rods use.

Re: Smaller Antenna??
Guess I'll have to join your The suck up fan club.
We can only say wonderful things about the Bling Kings car.
What a Suuuuuuuuuuuper antenna mod boy you really Know cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
Very true a power antenna looks better, hell no antenna is the best, but not every body has the dough to run out and buy a power antenna, nor to have the hole filled and repainted to delete the thing.
The guy asked for advise on how to shorten the antenna, he was given the info - and you come along with rude comments.
I never expect anyone to suck up to me nor would I ever suck up to anyone else. My comment with Steve was an inside joke as stated. Was Steve's car perfect? no. Is everyone "expected" to love it? no. As a modified F-Body it was very well executed, and there were things done to it many people were either to afraid to do, or just never thought of.
Truthful comments or observations are fair. The term rice is useless, overused, and honestly I no longer know what it means anymore. But I do know people just throw it (pun intended) around like swear words when they do not like the "idea" or "look", be creative and say what you mean, not say "rice" because honestly people who throw the word "rice" out look like morons . . .
I would love to get rid of the antenna, but the power antenna will have to do. And for those who can't or do not want to spend the money, the shorter antenna is a pretty neat idea.
So get off you high horse and I'll get off my soap box. Peace.
