i think the dovetail gives the transam a more retro muscle car look, instead of looking like a space ship spoiler

yeah the t/a rear bumper gives a car the "wider" look, it would match the spoiler alot better because the dove tail also gives a "wider" look by siting outside of the stock t/a and firebird spoiler area.

think about it

after getting the spoiler painted i would completely debadge the rear + fill in the PONTIAC and add a 1970's style trans am badge in the middle of the spoiler

There is one small problem, I have a formula. So Trans Am would not work.

But I love the idea of filling in and debadging. I was thinking that already. Even mentioned it to a local member.

I think I would just clear it, I am going white with the blue heritage. I have been using GM Corporate blue as my version of that blue used on the TA Heritage. (On my IM and Block and Tranny as I clean up and rebuild things) I am not sure any writing yet would work for mine but after I do mine maybe someone else can run with the idea. I def agree a more updated font is in order.

Hmm.... I just expect a lot of the comments about it not being a TA... Well lets see the font and go from there. I will test it out.

just use a 4th gen. formula decal or get a formula decal cut online using a "german" style font that looks similar to the one on the 1970s t/a

this should give you an idea - i would use the 3rd one

pm me if you want the fonts

as for the t/a with out the spoiler i agree but its only for a little while right its not like your keeping it that way so who cares

The problem with the ducktail is that the sides don't line up with the curve of the taillights. Looks tacked on. If it followed the contours better it would look fine.

excuse my ignorance, what wing is this and what years and models did it come from or is it an aftermarket piece

im sure the install of this ducktail as people are calling it requires the holes to be filled in the hatch, correct?

no production 4th gen trans am came with a dove tail spoiler, people are using the dove tail spoiler from RKSPORT. The RKSPORT dove tail spoiler is made for 4th gen camaros(v6,rs,z28). And yes you would have to fill and paint the factory spoiler holes for it to look "clean".

also the reason we are saying "it would look better with a t/a bumper" is not because it came factory on a model other than the ta, but because the only vehicles that have used the RKSPORT spoiler have had V6/Forumla rear bumpers

0-60 in 7.4 seconds... pretty sure that's quicker than a v6 camaro/firebird of the same year.
I've not timed my 0-60 is my 98 v6 camaro but c'mon, I know it isn't an LS1 so yeah it is slow but comparing it to an escort? It isn't that slow

^ actually 0-60 for the v6 is more than 7 seconds. now i dont think any escort can do a 7.4 0-60 time though. they are the bottom line cheap car for ford. however a v6 contour will give our v6 a run for its money. and the 200 horsepower 2.5L v6 svt contours would win. my mom has a contour that i have driven a lot and their little 2.5s are very torquey due to their variable induction.

funny thing is that my girl drives a 98 escort at the moment. she bought it off an old lady that lives next to my parents. i've known this old lady since i can remember and she used to have stories of all the muscle cars she owned in the 70's (her eyes glaze over whenever she talks about either her olds 442 or butter).

when i'd visit my parents in my camaro ss vert, this old lady would say "you know i think my escort could take your mustang"
then again, she also used to say it goes 0-70 in 4 seconds..

after buying her escort zx2, i was actually surprised by how fast it is. i can brake stall and leave the line spinning (albeit, tires are 185/60/15 and you know its a one wheel spin). i dunno about top speed - not suicidal, but it does have some ***** off the line up to about 40mph or so.

based on how our zx2 performs, the 7.4 sec 0-60 doesn't surprise me. its the 15.7 sec 1/4 mile that does, but that's probably with a manual ( http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicl...uss102497.html )

i doubt our zx2 would hang with a 3800 v6 camaro in the 1/4, but i think it would take half a car up to about 50mph or so.

that looks OK, but would be far better without a filled in tailight center piece and with a TA bumper

Somebody must have a picture
