Widening wheels....fitment ?
I really like the looks of the Trans Am collectors edition wheels and am trying to get something realatively cheap for my car to put on it for street use. I found someone that can widen the rear wheels to 11" from 9.5". The offset is the same and the extra width goes to the inside of the wheel. So it would go in closer to the inner fender. Would this work or would I have fitment issues with the wheels. I've heard of people doing this before but not with this particular wheel.

Wouldn't a spacer push it outside of the fender though? That's why I was assuming it being done 1.5" to the inside would be a good thing. Who knows. I really wouldn't want to run a 1.5" spacer on the wheels. That would be huge and maybe not even possible.

Re: Widening wheels....fitment ?
I don't know if it will have any problems other than minor clearance (small hammer) and possibly moving the jounce bumper. I have been trying to find out how much it would cost to have my WS6 wheels made wider. I don't remember the names, but I think that 2 people have done this before. I don't know how far you can go until you hit the control arms, but hopefully someone who has done this will help out.

There is a local guy I am going to use. He is about an hour away from me. They charge about 175 per wheel to do this plus shipping if you were shipping them I'm sure. I've heard they do good work. I have jounce bumper spacers and would be willing to put a small spacer on it if necessary but I dont' want them to stick outside of the fenders.

This may sound pretty radical ... have you ever thought of removing one of your rear wheels and actually MEASURING the distance from the wheel mounting face to the inner fender to see how much room you have? In automotive terms, this is known as "Backspace". Don't forget to subtract another 1/2" from that measurement for the tire itself extending beyond the rim.

Problem is I don't even have the rims yet so I can't do that. If the rims won't fit once widened I'm not even going to buy them.

Don't most company's tell you what the backspace is on their rims? My 8.5" centerlines have a 5" backspace so my tires should sit about 6" inside of the mounting pad. If you measure the distance from your mounting pad to the closest point on the backside of your fender wall you can tell how much backspace you can have.
I may not be describing this right but I think so. Check here:

Derek, check out www.ws6.com
Keith widened a set of stock WS6 rims out to 11" uing Budnik rear section. He has pics on that site...search around a little and you will find them.
The CE wheel is just a black WS6 rim.
Hope this helps you!

If those goons on horsepower tv can figure out backspace and what not on their camaro to fit 17x11s then you can figure it out too...just spare us the witty comments they love to use. <img src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
