Put the car in 1st gear. Look at the front of the shifter and you will see what looks like a staple in the shifter. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to work it out. After you get it out far enough you can pull in out with your fingers. Pull the **** off.

Thanx for the info:
One more question once I get it off will the little clamp go back in or ?
I am attempting putting a Grandprix leather shift boot in place of the ghetto plastic shifter setup on my 2000 TA I would hate to get it off and not get it back on.
Thanx

The clip will go right back in, if you use the same handle.
I haven't seen any aftermarket shifter handles for the a4 but I haven't really looked either.

This is the 2000 T/A leather shifter I put on my SS. But there is something on the horizon for us. Look over at CamaroZ28.com in the apperance section. There is a post that says something like " all A4 guys in here". The thread is about a gizmo for the Corvette that allows you to use a Manual **** for an A4. Instead of pushing a button to shift, you push DOWN on the ****. The company is supposivly working on one for the F-Body now. The selection would be endless for us!!

Here is the link to the thread. If you look at a post from the 8th from ZRAPTOR he said he got an email from the owner of the company that makes them and that they are testing one for F-Bods now and it will not be ready for another 6 weeks.

I think someone is going to get filthy RICH with that thing!!!!
I hate these stock shifters in A4 cars. Thay just dont feel right..... I would like to put a B&M Quicksilver(like in my 68 RS) b/c I like the feel of it and it is different.
