The top three in order of best hookup at the track AND on the street:

1. M/T ET Steets
2. BFG Drag Radials
3. Nitto 555R Drag Radials

For which is best drivability (rain, durability) on the street, reverse the order. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

What about mixing radial fronts with the tube-type ET Streets? I was told that was a No-No. What would be bad about that?

I only run the ET Streest when I'm on the track or going to the track. (Or to a street race <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> ) Not that I'd ever street race myself. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

That is fine, whatever the front wheels are.

I should add that the only one of the tires listed above that is driveable on the street *for real* are the Nittos. They actually do very well on wet roads and/or in the rain (better than the stock tires I had actually) as long as the water is not ponding.

I have never run ET Streets or BFGs on a wet road. From what I have heard, faster than 20 MPH on a wet road with either could cause you to swap *** and front ends very quickly.

If you have an aftermarket rear... ET Streets are the best for the track.

As for Nitto's, they have more tread then the BFG's, however, its takes a little more to get them warmed up for traction purposes.

Ive had all three set on my car, and for street driving i would go with the Nitto's.

There shouldnt be any trouble running bias ply tires on the rear with radials up front, for a short period. However, I wouldnt recommend using the ET streets on the street at all. These tires are built for strip use exclusively. They only have the DOT approval to be allowed for use in racing classis that require DOT tires. The first reply to this post by black ls1 t/a is correct on both accounts. Another tire that is close to the Nittos is the McCreary Road Stars. They are bias and wrinkle like a slick. They have a full tread and wear decently. After a good long burnout they will hook very well. I have no experience with the Nittos and my experience with McCrearys, and ETs are on a 67 GTO that runs in the 11s. The McCrearys can be had for less than $100ea. They are used alot by dirt track racers and often you can buy used ones with 1/2 tread left for less than $50. Only problem is I dont know if they make them diameters larger than 15".

I've taken people's advice and never drive the ET Streets in the rain.

I went to a track nearly 2 hours away once and got caught in the rain, with no ill-fated incidents, but it DEFINITELY was not intentional.

It IS true, the Nitto DR's actaull gripped better in the rain for me than any other street tire I've ever driven. I could actually feel the tread ot the Nittos trying to hook up thru the rain on the road.

'course... I wouldn't try a burnout in the wet. <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />
