Default Painted trim on pop up lights.

Im sure there are some people out there that have painted the nasty black trim around the 99+ T/A's headlights but i couldnt find any threads on this. Does anyone know of any or if you did paint yours to match the color of your car how did you do yours? Thanks guys im thinking of doing this to mine b/c i hate the black trim.

I painted mine pewter to match the car... came out ok, not the exact shade of the bumper, but much closer than the black.

Let me see if I have any pics.

If your going to do it, it's easy. just pop up your headlights, then switch the parking lamps so their not blinding you while you work. Take out I think 3 screws on each headlight shroud, then take them off and shut the car off.

Go to your local auto store and get Duplicolor "Adhesion Promoter Primer" it should have a clear top. This is good for painting on plastics. Get whatever color paint you want, you can find the codes online, Duplicolor also. Also you could get a clear coat paint can if you'd like for added protection and gloss. Just make sure your clear matches what kind of paint your using. For example, if your using Duplicolor GM Bright Red Enamel, make sure to get Enamel Clear coat.

All you need to do is 3 coats of the adhesion promoter, 2 or 3 coats of color, and 2 or 3 coats of clear. You won't need to sand it at all (unless it's a bit messed up) and clean it up with alcohol or something.

I actually have full HIDs in my 'Bird, so I don't really need a set of those lights lol. They look to be pretty nice though, they seem to be brighter. Although I dislike the look of halogen lights (the yellowy shade kills me) so I don't know if I would have gotten them anyway. I made a writeup on how to do HIDs for Firebirds, but it's great to know there's finally another option to go with. Stock headlights SUCK in birds. If you need any more info on the painting too just let me know. Each can of paint should be $5 as well

I am not a fan of painting the black plastic part around the headlights, but I am going to take mine back out (I have all the brackets chromed already) and paint the black metal headlight assembly (that you can see whith the hood up and the headlights down) SOM to match the car. It should be subtle but match the bumper support I already painted. I will do it and post some pics when I get a chance.

I'm still searching for pics. They could be on one of three different computers, so it may be a little while. I'd take pics, but the car is in hibernation right now.
