DAAAAAAM! That's pretty!
Love those valve covers. VERY nice. I like the welded sheet metal covers myself, and those sure do *bling. Can't wait to see it in the car Tony. That's going to be one bad *** ride.

nope. Look at all the SBC and BBC and old school engines with chrome valvecovers. Typically takes exhaust temps to "blue" chrome. Like motorcycle exhaust pipes or headers, etc...

local place in Houston chromed them. Took them 3 days to finish, and cost about $175 for the pair.
While I was at it, I had my '02 valvecovers and coil brackets chromed too. Pics after I get them installed later

Re: Who thinks LS1 engines are UGLY?
I would chrome the engine bolts like for the water pump, timing cover, etc rather than use the stainless allen head bolts.. reason? all stainless bolts are only grade 2 and the problem with stainless allen bolts is that when you try to torque them down (even a little like the timing cover bolts) the center hole deforms.. I know THIS from experience.. chrome the stockers and they will look great AND be strong.
I would powder the timing cover in near chrome then.. it will be too hard to get in there to maintain chrome or non-cleared polished (polish it and then clear powder it?)
I bought a set of SPAL fans today for only $250!!!

Steve, what do you mean by the center holes? Are you talking about the hex-hole on the head? These screws came as part of a complete kit for an LS1, the heads are pretty thick. Bigger OD than regular socket head screws also.
I think I'll have the water pump polished instead, that timing chain cover gets buried when everything is installed. Low maintenance if left alone

Also, I would do SOMETHING with the timing cover.. even if its just powdering it silver.. remember.. paint it, plate it or polish it.. Looks like I will most likely have that 98 pump available for you if your interested.. i will be going elec H2O pump -- Oh, i got a set of SPAL fans for only $250 today so im a happy camper!

Beautiful engine! I also feel that the LS1 engine is not all that bad looking. Remove a little bit of clutter here, add some chrome/color here, and wala!

I polished my water pump and really like the looks of it. I also bought custom stainless bolts that were identical to the factory ones and polished them to match the water pump. The extra 20 bucks is worth it. Just a word of caution, the 01' pumps are not easy to polish because of the way they are casted. It took me a ton of time sanding, dremmeling, and polishing to get it done correctly. It was worth it IMO. You have one sweet set up! I do agree the LS1 could look a little better in factory form.
