After a little planning and research, I've finally decided to start working on a project I've wanted to do since I've had a spare bumper sitting around my house for about a year now. I want to re-create the front bumper cover seen on the Dick Harrell camaros.

This is my motivation:


It's basically a stock bumper, with an extended "lip" coming off the nose of the bumper.

Ok, so here is my starting platform:


It's a stock, OEM bumper with a wings west body kit, that I think i will be able to use to my advantage. Here's how.

I plan on cutting out the middle part of the body kit piece, and using that to form the lip. it looks like it will be a pretty good fit and already has the general curve to the real DH bumper.







Now was for the sides, looks like i don't need to do anything except take off the sides of the body kit






The only tricky part to this whole thing I think is forming the lip where the fog light holes are on the bumper.




Anyways, I'm going to get started this weekend, so I will keep you all updated as I make progress with this thing.

thats a cool idea. you might be better off snipping off the bottom of the bumper like the bottom part of the fog light opening, and grafting the bottom of that wings west kit in there. if i had more spare time id love to help you.

i think i see what your saying. i need to find some cups or something i can use to fill in the fog light holes while im molding, that will make life easier.

i've tried to sell it for like a year, now it's time to have some fun with it

 

What are you gonna use to mold it? (products)

 

well my idea so far is to go to a craft store and get some foam, that will be easy to cut and shape and then put fiberglass over that and a little bondo to smooth it out... any suggestions?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think bondo and the plastic on these bumpers don't work together too well. Plastic is flexible and the bondo isn't so it cracks.

I want to see how this comes out, could be pretty cool

Try using plastic filler.

No matter what you use if ya' hit/bump into something, it'll crack cause the fiberglass won't give as much as urethane.

Just be very careful when you handle it and if it comes out good and you want to install it...watch the front very closely.

hmmm. what i have is some stuff made by bondo, it has little fiberglass strands in it... suppose to be somewhat flexible

Looks like 'kitty hair'...that does have a little flex.

Just don't go running into things...lol...not that you will.
