My '02 SS has 17,000 miles of grime in the engine compartment. Is it ok to get it wet cleaning it? Should the coil packs be covered?

 

I use high pressure water (car wash) without issues.

Don't drown it. Just "blow" the junk off, don't hold the wand in one place too long.

 

Simple Green spray and a garden hose.

Personally, I don't use high pressure water. Just right out of the hose seems to work fine.

 

I bought some CD2 stuff from auto zone, that works really nice for deatailing your engine bay and makes your manifold very shiny.

 

good call. i used the cd2 stuff also, it comes 2 cans in a set. works really awesome, my engine bay was soooo grimey when i bought my car, picked the cd2 up and washed it looks like the car just rolled out of the showroom

just spray simple gren everywhere and then rinse, it wont damage any parts? im kinda slow, so dont mind me...

 

Pretty much, just watch the fuse boxes. You can cover it, prolly a good idea, or just be careful.

 

I just washed the front of the engine today. I rinsed with a garden hoes which gets off a ton of stuff. Then I sprayed on Simple Green and let it sit for a couple minutes, and rinsed off. A scrub brush could help even more, it looks very good now. BUT.... the water got into one of the idler pullies and is making a HORRID squealing noise, look in the External Engine forum for more info.
