Default painting brake calipers????

Just curious what type of paint people are using on their calipers, and how long it lasts before looking chitty?!?! I just had some custom paint work done to my TA, the body shop gave me a small bottle for touch up work... I am assuming that would do the trick, what should I use to clean them off? Simple green? Degreaser?

Go to PepBoys and get some high temp engine paint.. I used Plasticoat Caliper paint but engine paint would work just as well.. how long it last depends on how well you prep the parts

Clean them VERY good with brake cleaner.. I used some high temp primer.. then the paint.. them some high temp clear over my CAMARO decals.. held up great..

Oh, if you want to go the extra mile then take a dremel and smooth out the face of your calipers and remove all the casting marks and such..

99 Fire TA - High temp paint is not neccessary when painting your calipers. All you need is simply is some regular paint. I know it does not seem right but the acual caliper does not get that hot on the outside at least to have high heat paint. I simply when to paint store and told them to mix up some torch red GM paint and I got a little can of it. It was a few bucks. I simply cleaned the calipers with some rubbing alcohol and let it sit a few and when to painting and then added Marks CAMARO decals it looks awesome!!

I say polish those calipers, I did mine last night and let me tell you they look soooooo much better than painted ones. It takes a little more time but I think it's worth it. I'm gonna have to go back over them with a finer grit paper since 220 was the highest I had to get some of the scratch marks out the 220 left behind.

I kinda like that polishing idea... might give it a shot, if nothing else, atleast I will have a nice surface to paint.

How would an individual go about polishing their calipers? Can you write a detailed description of processes and tools?
What will it look like? chromeish?

How long will it last? Maybe spray on some clear coat?

Thanks for the help!

The first time I took a crack at it the caliper had pits in it but with the right sandpaper they came out a crap load better.
First use somewhere between 120-220 grit to get the rough stuff off (you'll know it's far enough when the pits disappear)
Next use 400-600 grit to rid the scratches and give you a nice surface.
Then use a polishing compound for aluminum to give a nice shin and finish off with Mothers brand Mag and Aluminum polish.
I used a DA sander for the sanding (of course) and used a hand held 4" Buffing wheel for the polishing and a rag for the Mothers. I need to go back over it with 400+ grit on the DA sander to get rid of some of the scratches but looking at it right now I swear they are almost as shiny as the rims. To keep them nice go over them once in a while with some more Mothers and they'll stay clean.
