A VERY bold goal...
I love American cars. But unfortunatly, the Italians have much cooler doors. I know what you are thinking: Who gives a damn? Well I do. Well all know about the door that The lambo boasts, but are you aware of the door mechanism that is utilized by the Clarkson Koenigsegg? Look it up on the internet, or watch the "Top Gear" that shows off this Swedish beauty. My goal in life is to make my doors on my 98 Trans Am open like that.
The mechanism is called a "Dihedral Synchro-Helix Door Actuation." A mouthful I know, but after witnessing the door open, one is speechless. If there are any engineers in here that would like to help me design this joint for my door, I would be very gracious. Anyways, check it out, let me know what you think abuot the car, and about my idea. And mark my words: This will happen.

Here we go with this again....
This is not a new idea. If you had searched for it, you'd have found it. Due to the weight of our doors and the way the body is, it can be done but they still "swing out" pretty far. Not only that but since we have unibody cars it could really warp them after a while. I don't think it's been done on a Firebird yet but here's a Camaro.

Even better, watch the "Top Gear" video. You get to see them in action, plus this car is incredible and the video is worth the download. A bunch of cool racing videos can be found at racingflix.com.

Honestly Ryan, I don't understand why you want to do that. Of course it's your car and your money, but I think it will look silly and be way too costly. You asked for opinions so there is mine.

If you think that walking up to a car, pushing a button on your key fob, and watching everyones jaw drop when the door comes out, then swings up, your insane.

Not key fob operated. In actuality, it would not be THAT expensive. My main reason for whanting to do it is because NO ONE else would have it and I like the idea. I would not be doing it to impress people. But glitch, if you saw it, you'd look twice.

How much is "not that expensive?" It's gotta be at least over a grand.
I thought you were getting wheels and tires, or did you get those already?
But I have to admit, those doors on that konisegg (sp?) look awesome. In the video when he opens the door, my mouth just drops every time.
