Speaker recommendations
I'm looking to replace the rear seat (6 3/4") and back hatch speakers (4"). I know of lots of good speakers in these sizes, but I don't want to put a 3-way where a 3-way doesn't belong, etc.
Thanks.
The front (6 3/4") and rear hatch (4") speakers are 2 ways (mid and high) and can be replaced by a number of speakers that fit. I'm thinking of the Infinity Kappa's.
I used to be in stereo's before i got sucked into LS1's! In all reality the STOCK speakers are actually quite good if you hook up an EXTERNAL amp and bypass the monsoon. If you want to keep the stock amp then the only real upgrades(that are worthwhile) would be to replace the front speakers to a little bit better quality.
a little better i hope?
the EASIEST way to get a killer system out of your firechicken is here-(IMO of course)-
Take out the monsoon and rewire the whole car! Buy a 5 channel amp. i replaced the front speakers with a 6.5" MB quart compenent set(VERY nice)
I replaced the sail panel speakers with 6.5" Kicker "free-air" subs for midbass and bought an MB quart 3-way crossover and wired the sail panel woofer, the 4" and the tweeter from the back all inline w/ that crossover(yes you can buy them seperately w/o the MB quart speakers. HOWEVER for REALLY great sound i would splurge and buy their 3 way reference component set. ($150ish for the Xover vs. $600ish for the 3-way set, you decide)
Then on top of all that i went through a few subwoofer options and found that the MTX thunderform that fits in the hole back there had the best sound out of alot of other subwoofers and the best part is you cna't even tell it is there and does not get in the way of anything(unless you have a changer back there)
Ok that is my breakdown. The one thing that made this EXTREMELY easy for was the fact that my head unit has 3 sets of pre-outs which let me control each speaker and crosover point from the dash! If your head unit does not have that then i would suggest either an external 3 way Xover or if your amp has a Xover built in Xover the front @ about 80hz, the rear @ 60hz.
