Painting valve covers? Don't do what I did!

I have a 1998, and painted my valve covers using VHT High Heat Aluminum paint. I bought the Taylor 10mm wires and the car wouldn't even run. I replaced 4 of the wires and the car ran, but missed. I touched the valve cover while the car was running and damn near electrocuted myself!
Seems that particular paint was conducting voltage from the coils across the valve covers. This was causing a serious "short" in the ignition system. No wonder I was down on power. It will be intersting to see if I gain some power back now (I sand blasted the paint off).

Did you primer the valve covers first??? It might be a good thing to do(if you didn't). I am not sure how it would short anything out but **** happens!!!

Maybe the insulation on one of the harness wires running to the coils got damaged? Could happen when you remove & replace the coil brackets...

you must have a short somewhere.
My valve covers have been painted with vht high temp aluminum paint for 3 years now.
You didn't paint the coils and wiring did you?
