Default painting calipers

I was thinking about painting my calipers. My car is a Monterey Maroon Z28. Any color suggestions? Also, I have seen a few posts about decals for calipers, where can these be found? Anybody that has painted their calipers, I would appreciate any tips on how to get a good finished product.

I used VHT caliper paint w/ 3-4 coats and no clear coat. They dry quickly and look great

Duplicolor 'cast coat iron' would look great on a maroon car. It wouldn't clash like red would.

I was thinking about painting my calipers either a dark blue, or a dark metallic gray. Which would look better on a maroon car?

After much thought, I think the gray will look the best too, the same color as in the picture of the SS. I especially think the gray will look better with the decals. It'll be a few weeks before I get the time to do it. Thanks for the input.

What do you appearance gurus think ...

I have a black TA with Sunset orange door emblems and chrome ZR1s. Should I do metallic black calipers or that "cast coat iron color"?? Oh and stock rotors too. And i'll be buying decals too.

What you want to avoid are too many different colors. Black would work.

IMO, VHT is good but is overkill and way more expensive. I used Plasti-kote 'caliper paint' from Pep Boys. Looks great! I used it on my valve covers too.

I don't have any other accents colors. All stock. However, when i get around to suspension stuff it'll be black.

I am assuming that everybody takes their calipers off for painting. Am I wrong in this assumption? If you are taking the calipers off, how hard is it to do, and what kind of prep work should I do? The hub of my rotors have a little rust on them and I was going to attend to that too, what should I use to get the rust off, and has anybody painted the hub of their rotors, I was thinking of doing it the same color as the calipers.

those calipers aren't too easy to get off. or is was doing something wrong (which is always likely). i attempted yesterday, but i got too much girlfriend interference and decided to wait until next weekend.

No need to remove calipers. There is a very informative link somewhere but i'm not sure where it is Anyhow, the guy used plastic bags and paper/tape to cover the areas not intended to be painted. Wrap the bags inside the calipers but around the pads (at least i think thats how he did it). Take a look and see if thats how it goes.

I took my calipers and rotors and all off and painted them all(I only cleared the back and have got to get time to clear the fronts) I'll try to take some pictures now that I have my camera working

I found it better to disassemble the caliper, bracket and pads but leave the caliper attached to the brake line. I masked the parts of the caliper not to be painted and suspended it with some heavy wire from the suspension. A large plastic dropcloth covered the entire car and I pulled the calipers through some small slits in the tarp. Worked great and I didn't have to bleed the lines when I was done.
