Default 2001 WS6 RIMS??

I recently bought a 2001 WS6 and noticed that it has the newer 2002 magnesuim rims on it.. i like the rims but rather have the shine of the older WS6 rims.. does n e one no a way of getting then as shiny as polished aluminum, or are the rims from the factory as shiny as they get? i was gona consider trading someone.. but relized that these rims are pretty rare concidering they only made them for a year and a half. So i'd prefer keepiong them.

The only way to get them shiney would be to strip off all the clear coat. Polish them up to how you want them and reclear coat. Alot of work IMHO.

The wheels on TA's have always been a little dull due to being polished, not chromed.

As for your first question on can you get magnesium as shiney as aluminum, not sure but I don't see why not.

Yes they should be clear coated. All natural cast metal wheels are typically coated.

You don't have to re-clear them, it would just protect all your hard work.

ritgh on..
well im gona try that.. strip that paint off and polsih them.. they say magnesium comes out to a nichol plating finish rather then chrome. but ya the only thing im worried about is if the magnesium can handle rain and shine weather without getting pits and corrode.

If you didnt re-clear the rims they would dull from the elements, and you would find yourslef polishing them all the time.
I say strip them down, polish the hell out of them with some sort of wheel polish (should be the most inexpensive way) and get some paint shop to re-clear them.

I speak from experience because I had 95 firehawk rims (same as 2001+ ws6 rims, but made by speedline and not GM) that were bare metal that i had to polish all the time. They looked great, but sure were labor intensive.

good luck

well.. today i attemped to get the clear coat off.. i couldn't use paint remover because the store only had industrial strenght and it said not to use on aluminum.. but i figured if it said that then i would be better off not using it on magnesium. So the guy told me to get some 2000 grit sandpaper to get the caoting off.. but all they had there was 1500 witch is a little rougher.. but i tried at that for a bit with no results.. i havent used my grinder with the polishing wheel yet but i wet sanded them with the 1500 in one spot to see if there was a diff.. but there wasnt.. r u sure theres a CLEAR COAT?? or should i start with a rougher grit sand paper?? PS I had a 86 IROC before this car and re baught the original IROCs and sanded them to a smooth finish and polished them to a crome like shine.. yes it was alot of work.. but it pays off for the shine <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" />
