Okay question. Mine have some pretty deep pitting. Would it be possible to use like a 2000 grit paper on them and then polish them really good?

If your OEM rims are untouched/unmolested, they have a crappy Factory Clear, best bet is to have that stripped, Finely polished by a good shop and then sprayed with a clear power coat.

This will give the best look and if you do the inside, cleaning the inside of the rim will be easy.

If the clearcoat is still in good condition, I'd leave them as is and just use soap and water. If it's pitted, chipping, flaking, yellowing, etc. I'd do as described below.
