Default Headlights?

Ok Ok I know this is an old topic but I need to get new headlights! After some research I came to the conclusion that the sonar halos are the best... That out of the three, the eagle eyes, the projectors, and last are the sonars. The question is were can I find the sonars?? I went on ebay and couldnt find them. Were did you get them, what was the the sellers name, and how much did they run u??? Also I want the black ones if available. Any help would be appreciated!!!!!

There also appear to be more than one version.

The version people have tried use a H1 bulb for the low beam projector.

The newer version uses a 9005 bulb for the low beam projector.

No one on here has tried the second one yet, but a 9005 projector in general typically has better output than a H1 projector and can handle HID better.

Here is a H1 version:

Here is a 9005 version:

I'm skeptical that they really use a 9005 bulb, but it would be a pleasant surprise. Please confirm with them before making a purchase.

Here is another version:

I have no clue what kind of bulb that one takes though (I didn't see it in the ad).

This set looks like the Sonar projectors posted in another thread, but the ad doesn't say which bulbs these use. You'll have to contact them.

I found those searching on ebay for "camaro projector" instead of "sonar". I don't think any of those specifically said sonar.

I thought the trim around the projector looked like it.

I'd like to see someone try the 9005/9006 projectors. They should have better output, but there is only one way to find out for sure. I don't have a Camaro, otherwise I might try them.

Here is a trick/tip for a 9006 projector. A 9005 bulb has higher output than a 9006 bulb, but it doesn't have a black painted cap. Although that is a problem for a reflector housing, its no problem for a projector housing. A 9005 bulb can fit with a slight trimming to a lock tab on the bulb (no modification to the housing). If you look at the base of the two bulbs, you'll see what needs to be trimmed.

If you search sonar under my name, you'll find out what store I bought it from. i can't remember it right now. IIRC, it was $125 shipped.

Not to sound too critical, but unfortunately those are H3 which is a fog/aux bulb and doesn't produce the same output as these other projectors.

It certainly does matter with HID. H3 Halogen Projector housings do worse than most other Halogen Projector housings since the filament in a H3 bulb is perpendicular to the glass tube instead of parallel with it. In almost all automotive HID (OEM & Kits) the arc is parallel to the glass tube. The only exception is H3C which is rare, expensive, and fragile.

There are plenty of choices, but of the available choices, I'd recommend sticking with housings that use 9005/9006 bulbs or H1 bulbs (9005/9006 preferred). I posted a few in the posts above. Before you buy, just confirm with the seller which bulbs they use.

You can't just change the bulb. You'd need new housings. Or replace the projector in your current housing and if you are going through the trouble of that, you might as well use real HID projectors (TSX, FX, S2K, RX330, etc) instead of halogen projectors.
