00 steel wool works good for removing water spots. Some cleaner waxes will remove them too. And yes, waxing your windows will help prevent water spots and will help bead water off when it rains, making it clearer for you to see out of, it also makes it easier to clean your windows.

Thanks for the tip. Are we talking Carnauba wax or synthetics? Or doesn't matter?

Anyone ever used white vinegar/soap/water? Does it work? Dangerous to paint finish and protectants?

DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL ON SIDE MIRRORS! That will scratch the **** out of them. lol Seen it done. But on windows its fine. A cleaner wax, like mothers cleaner wax should remove most if not all of the water spots off the mirror. Cleaner wax is just harder to use for not as great of results. IF you can get ahold of auto detailing acid, that is the **** to remove water spots! Just gotta be careful not to let it dry on your paint. I wouldn't recomend using acid unless you know what your doing. Vinegar and water will work... kinda like acid, but much less affective.
As far as what cleaner waxes work, I'd say they all work to an extent. I dont have much experience with too many cleaner waxes, but I've used a few and the best cleaning power I've been able to find is Mothers cleaner wax. Its actually a really good one step product for paint too.

Thats the cleaner wax I'm talkin about. You can pick it up at your local stores too.

I use the clay bar or a mix of water and vinegar. Works everytime and will not damage the window or paint.

Stoners Invisible Glass
Razor
ClayBar
Buffing Compound

Lots of things work, I like the buffing compound with a machine though, does an awesome job. Also, I protect the glass with RainX... Wax will usually leave a bit of white residue in light scratches and such...

Use SpotX! Its 7 dollars are HOME DEPOT. My truck had horrible, and I mean horrible water spots on it. Claybar, wax, zaino, buffing compound, etc wouldn't take it off. This stuff took it right off with little effort.

Steel wool and glass cook top cleaner will work perfect. And yes, you can use it on side mirrors.
