Default Help cleaning chrome rims

I have some chromes 16's on my third gen and the brake dust is really getting caked and baked on there.

Is there any special cleaner or polish or chemical to remove this stubborn dirt?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Try a diluted solution of Simple Green. Castrol make a very good wheel cleaner too. Just make sure the wheel is not hot, and do not use any cleaners on the wheels in direct sun light. Try it in a small spot first and then work your way out.

I use simple green if it is not too bad If it is really caked on there I either use that cheap a$$ polishing compound from TURTLE WAX (like 99 cents) or chrome polish Good luck

He has chrome rims, so I wouldn't use Mag/Aluminum polish. That could wear through the chrome. But if the surface is scratched, I guess its worth a try. I just use Meguire's Wheel cleaner; the purple stuff. Its pretty strong. I use it on my chrome wheels, but that stuff is acidic and I wouldn't use it on other surfaces.

I agree it's not for daily cleaning purposes. But I recommended it because I use it and have used it for years on 3 different sets of chrome wheels. It has always cleaned the chrome very well, especially the brake dust. I would never use it all the time but a good cleaning a few times a year has kept all my chrome wheels looking like new for a long time. It also will polish out stainless steel (i.e. muffler, exhaust pipes) to look polished or near chrome if you use enough elbow grease. I can't say enough about it. It's like the Zaino of metal polish and it DOES work with chrome, especially if you need some extra help cleaning off some old dirt like Brostal does.
