That could make it out of level if it is too thick. Is it steel or aluminum? That will not only add weight, but rotating mass. You don't wanna do that and if its aluminum, just polish it up.

Should be. I would just paint it with regular rattlecan if you were gonna do it. Not anything bulky.

Just a tip: kneel down and look at the ds; if it is rusty, its steel. If shiny, aluminum.

It will not throw your driveshaft out, I have always painted mine, VHY chassis paint seems the most durable, but im sure por-15 would be great as well... I have done this to every aftermarket DS I have had, everything I put on gets painted, its just nice not to have rust, when it takes 2 min of work...

It just doesn't seem like a good idea to me, seeing as how it adds mass, but rotational mass at that.

Not the one in question... Only LS1s with 3.42s or 3.23s (and maybe some other rarer cars I don't know about) came with aluminum driveshafts.

The LT1 cars, V6 cars and LS1 cars with 2.73s all got steel driveshafts...

I'd bet money a previous owner swapped it out before he sold it...

Also, I have seen factory SS cars with steel due to having and A4 and 2.73's... (just once on a wrecked car but that is what the build sheet listed as well).

Old seinfeld FTMFW!!!
I can't really see how rattle can paint would throw off the rotation. It's ****** paint. One coat isn't alot of mass.

this may be a little extreme but you could get it anodized since it is metal...

Some of you all crack me up with the whole painting it will throw it out of Balance, I used to work at a driveline shop and we would paint them after we balanced them. Paint it you'll be fine.
