Default Aluminum door panels?

Anyone ever successfully make a set? Looking to shave a few pounds here and there. There's a local metal shop that can roll some lines into the panel to make it look nicer, even have an idea for an arm rest. Heck, I might even have them made out of brushed stainless, cost isn't too much different. Just curious about the shape of the panel, where to put bends, how you attached them, etc. Pictures by any chance?

how much weight do you think it would shave off? i don't think it would be worth the money and the hassle. you could get some fiberglass pieces tho

I don't think it would be worth it at all. There's a million things you could lighten before you do that. Why not just take them off when it matters? They come off pretty easily. Maybe invest the money into making them come off even easier somehow.

they weigh little to nothing already. I think you might add weight with aluminum ones... I've done some weight reduction loosing the abs block, traction control, aluminum drivehaft, no washer fluid tank, fiberglass hood, aftermarket steering wheel with no airbag, no rear seat belts, no space tire and jack. try a few of these instead.

I think y'all missed the point. I'm not asking if I should do it, I'm asking about how. I'm friends with the owner of the fab shop, so it'll be dirt cheap to do. Also, my driver side panel is broke up, getting some replacements that match this interior would be tricky and/or expensive.

They already make them and there not that much. Search the drag section, there is a thread with pics.

I don't believe that. I've taken both panels off and I would say that they weigh 5lb each MAX. 5lbs is pushing it too.

Not that much? Wolfe is the only maker I've found, and those are $200

As for weight, most of the threads I've seen put the panels at about 9 pounds each, 18 total.

I'd do carbon fiber door panels, they will be lighter than aluminum.

So would I, 'cept I don't have $1000 to spend on custom molded door panels.

Yeah, and the wolfes weigh less than 5 together. It isn't that much considering it is usually one of the last little things someone would do. You also lose more than just the door panel weight, wiring and other things too.

If you said you loose the window motor I would believe you would loose 9 pounds each. But just the panel not including the wiring or the window motor weighs less than 5 lbs.

A stainless panel will be heavier than the plastic one. If you want weight reduction for a drag car, throw the panels into storage and drive your car commando

You can also cut out some metal too. There is a thread if you people would just search.
Have you ever thought that maybe not everyone does it for the weight savings only?? It also cleans it up a very good bit.

If your friend owns the fab shop then he should know how to do it. I'm guessing you'll have the only set ever created, for obvious reasons.
