Default T-top to Hard top?

anyone converted their T top t a hard top?

not sure from this pic if its just a straight swap or what else is needed...burt it looks like it dosent offer much in the way of structural support thats not there allready - I want to get rid of the heavy glass which is weight i dont want in the wrong place

T tops are not heavier. I converted mine to a t top, and its about the same.

seems like a waste of time and effort for the conversion...

If you are serious about it, I'd check into a bodyshop just to ask what kind of bonding agent is necessary to laminate the hardtop onto the inner structure. I'm one of those few people who have a hardtop and love it. I don't think you'd save in weight, though, with the hardtop also necessitating a headliner.

Sounds like a lot of headaches......if you were to want to go to all that trouble there might be someone that makes the tops out of plexi or something to save weight

I passed on a few T-Top cars because I wanted a hard top. Never liked T-Tops and it would have been a deal breaker for me. But on the other hand I hope to be all over that previously mentioned targa top when its ready.

if i could have ordered my TA in a hardtop, i would have. i NEVER take the tops off. the only thing theyve been good for is removing them to take the seat in and out easier. that, and without t-tops i couldnt fit with my new seat and helmet. but i would have found some way to fit if i had a hardtop. i never liked t-tops and never will.

you also wont save any weight by converting. look into a plexi piece if youre so worried about a few pounds.

One thing I will say I disagree about it being too much of a headache. A competent person with the knowledge, skills, and tools can do it with ease. Most people I see doing these conversons are cars that are race cars, The conversion should make it lighter but until parts are weighed, you dont know.

Its not so much it makes the car more rigid, its gets weight off and makes the car look cleaner and not negate a chance for a T-top to launch out during a run which has happend. Its due to adjustment, not whether the T top is locked.

Ok so from what ive read about T-tops V hardtop theres a loss in rigidity compared to hardtops...but from looking at that diagram it looks like the t-top frame is there anyway and the hardtop is just a panel

been keeping in touch with 6LE about his Targa roof and seen the Blaine Fabrication CF roof panel...but untill i saw the exploded diagram wasnt sure how rigid they would be compared to a Factory Hardtop

Ive not weighed it but those glass panels must weigh more than a hard top panel whatever its made of

I agree with Echomirage and Mcnord, it would have been a deal breaker if the car wasnt so good...and i needed a car and the current Mrs wasnt a day from having our 2nd kidd....my old Lotus Elise was a "convertable" but I nver had the soft top down and within a week I had a fixed hard top on it that never came off

I still think its worth the effort....if only to eventually put stripes across it

I found a 94 camaro hard top in the junk yard and had them cut off the roof for me to retro fit on my firehawk. There isnt really much difference between the two so it looks like it will be a matter of attaching the two structure pieces along the headliner and the roof skin. btw the roof only cost me $175! gotta find a shop to do it now!

Your better off getting a hardtop. The structure won't be the same as a factory hardtop.

I just recently went from Hardtop to T-Top and I couldn't imagine it going from T-Top to hardtop with how much work you've gotta do.
