Default Polished calipers, now new question...

Finished polishing my calipers, now I wanna polish the visible edge of the mounting bracket and support. Is it easy to take the caliper and mounting system off? Or is this just something I should leave alone?

Very easy to diassemble. the are tow bolts that mount the bracket to the car, just make sure to torque the bolts down to spec and use a little loc tite, I've heard of the bolts coming loose.

Any idea what the specs on these bolts are? No manual handy. Another thing, is it very hard to bleed the system back to normal??
Thanks again.

You should be able to take it apart with out dissconnecting the caliper, from the brake line, the caliper unbolts from the bracket, then just hang it with a piece of wire. Then remove the bracket from the support. Polish the bracket.

Troque spec. I want to say 74 ft. lbs. BUT PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK!

Bleeding our brakes is just like any other normal car, open bleeder on caliper, have some one pump the brakes until fluid comes out and move to the next. Start with the caliper furthest away from master cylinder. Don't forget to keep checking master cylinder so it doesn't run out of fluid.

The only problem with polishing the mounting brackets is the fact that they are not aluminum.. they are steel.. and steel really dosent polish well (and theres that rust problem )

My advice would be to have the bracket chrome plated.. it will match the caliper pretty good and be MUCH easier to maintain

Good luck and post pics when your done

Chrome of course would look much better but Steve is right, they'll look like crap without the proper coating. That's why they have that zinc coating on them from the factory.

What about clearing them? Would this stop the rust problem? Or would it be better off to just paint and forget...

Sure you could clear them after you polish them but I dont think you would get very good results polishing steel.. its not like its stainless steel.. The BEST results would be to chrome.. the second best would be to paint.. silver, Charcole grey (cast iron) or an accent color would be your best bets..

I'm going with painting them "aluminum" I plan on getting fm5's in polished later on, so chroming them would be a waste in my opinion. They are looking pretty sweet if I must say, I'll snap some pictures tomorrow or sunday.

Sounds like you're going to have a sweet set up. I need to do something with my brackets too. Be sure to post pictures when you are done.
