HVAC Overlay "mock up" Well I got bored today and one thing led to another. I decided to try and make a red overlay for my hvac controls (my car has a black with red accent theme). After a bunch of measurements and about 5 prototypes I made a pretty decent one. Yes it still has problems that I plan to address, but I think its a very solid start. I plan on making the text bolder and darker so its more readable and I still have to add the blue and red strips for the heater ****, but i think it looks great so far. Hopefully I can finish it tomorrow and post some better pics (it got dark on me and my camera phone isnt so good). I plan on buying some red overlays for the cluster as well as making my own overlay for the headlight **** area.
The flash makes these look very pink, I assure you, they are red.
This one shows the color better.....still not that great though:
Edit: Spent some more time on it today mostly to prove that it isnt pink....knock it all you want, Im starting to like it....with some gauges and the headlight **** area red....i think itll be good.

Why not just buy some if you're already getting the overlays? I'm not shooting you down, i dig it, but his (6LE's) are SUPER customizable and fit GREAT! Just my $.02. Here's what I got...

But I think that **** is ugly, tacky, and way out of place.
It looks like something you found in Wal-Mart when you had $10 in your pocket and you wanted to "mod" your car.
Of course, thats just my opinion so it really doesn't matter.

^^No, I was expecting that, hence me putting "mock up" Its not 100% done at this point. I was pretty much posting it up because I think it has potential. And yes I know with 6LE around nothing I make will look half as good as his stuff, but it sure wouldnt cost as much either.
Oh, I've gotcha now, just testing it.
I think if you wanted something like that, a lot of the interior would have to go with it, lots of red accents...just one can't pull it off.

^^ exactly, its way too out of place by itself, which is why I plan on getting some red gauges and doing the headlight dimmer switch area in red as well. Im hoping to end up with something like sommer86 (which looks great by the way)

I think it's pretty good for a home made overlay. It's not like it clashes with anything, but more accents would really set it off.
It was really simple actually. I took some basic measurements of it then oversized them slightly so you wouldnt see any blank space when it was installed. Using those measurements I made a model of the HVAC controls with a program called "solid edge" although one could use anything like that.....a drafting program essentially. After I had it with perfect measurements I imported it into adobe photoshop and made it look how I wanted. Printed it off on a high quality printer with photo paper, cut out the spots for the ***** with a razor and I was done.
