"CAMARO" Light
#24
Launching!
I would settle for the small dash light for the time being. A write-up with all the necessary tools and supplies including where they were purchased would be awesome. I'd even pay for a kit with supplies necessary that you can get together or something like that with instructions included.

well, I dont think I have enough pictures to do an actual write up, but I have several behind the scenes pictures.
Some of my mounting materials are a little rough, but since its all in the background I think its OK. I found that hot glue does a great job of stabilizing the electronic stuff...
here is the panel, before paint. I have already cut out the letters at this point and put the red glass in place. I used putty to "mask" off the letters for painting.
after painting, here is the backside of the panel... with the refractive material and LED mounts in place.
now with the LEDs mounted:
Next are a couple pictures from the testing phase with the prototype wiring.
And then final testing with the final "black box".
And just in case someday I figure out a way to make a kit, Im keeping whats in the black box a secret.
Here are a couple pictures of the mini "Camaro" panel. I didnt take as many pictures during this part...
My wife and I are expecting our first kid any day now, so working on how to make a kit will have to be on the back burner for a little while.
But Mr.EVH and I have started kicking around ideas.
I probably have 100hours in this set up, but we are working on ways to streamline it.
No promises, but I am gonna put some serious thought into it.
Thanks!

So I had to keep working on improvements...
Next revision was a separate light behind each letter. That was ok, but I still wanted to do it better...
Then the 275 LEDs that just came on solid all the time. Now the light was nice and uniform. But I still wanted to add more... so then came the Sentry version (the first video I posted last summer)
And now the the current version with the microchip and mini dash "camaro".
I like the challenge.

I really want to make the little interior CAMARO. I'm pretty sure I could make it. I wouldnt have it do all that cool stuff yours can do. I would just have an on and off switch. What kind of plastic did you use to fill the letters?

duffster really how gayyy is your avatar ... 99.8% of PEOPLE IN AMERICA THAT WEAR TURBANS ARE NOT MUSLIMS. THEY ARE SIKHS, SIKHS AND MUSLIMS HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS. sikhs believe in the equality of all people no matter gender race religion or beliefs. you want to hate obama, hell be my guest but putting a turban on him just gives the average americans a bad impression of people with turbans. i can tell that is not a islamic style turban either but is a sikh style turban that originates from northern india.

Uhh, it's a picture off the net. I'm not buying Obama anything to put on his head. Back to our regularly scheduled program. LEDs would be very very bright, but very very very very time consuming.

none the less, you are still supporting the image and using it freely on a forum that thousands of people view. my 2 cents
