Default Whistler Mod Help

Hey guys,

well yesterday I tried to do the whistler mod... I popped out one headlight and I put a large flat piece of stone in my oven to put the headlight on as I didn't think it would be a good idea to place it directly on the oven rack... I had it in there @ 200* for a good 25 mins and the damn lens would hardly budge... I stuck it back in for another 15 mins and same deal... the lens would hardly budge.. and i didnt want to try forcing it against the housing as i heard it was very brittle and could break easily... I didn't wanna keep trying so I let the headlight cool down and tossed it back on my car so I could drive around last nite.

My question for those of you who have successfully completed this mod is: did you place your headlight directly on the oven rack or did you place something in your oven... what i'm thinking is since it was a fairly large piece of stone (large not THICK - prolly 2-3cm thickness) it was absorbing most of the heat especially since the temp was only 200*...

Thx guys

yea you have the place it on the rack. oven stones absorb and hold way too much heat

I remember mine took waaaay longer than I expected, I had the same experience. I just turned up the heat a little and kept checking it every 15 min. or so.

I have my oven preheating to 225 right now, I'm a bit hesitant to put it in there.. The metal on the lights scares me but hopefully should be ok. I'm going to put mine directly on the rack.. I'll see how it goes and let you know if mine worked at the 225 heat for 25-30 minutes.

EDIT: 225 for 30 minutes worked perfect for me.. Both of mine came right off without any issues.

I put mine on a baking sheet tray and put some foil where the light would touch it, I used a hair dryer to keep it hot while it was out of the oven and pryed it with a butter knife as soon as I had a little gap I just used the hair dryer the rest of the way

make sure you take off the metal clips before you put them in the oven

The only thing you need to take off is the 4 clips

Well i just tried this again.. this time with no stone... 215*F at 30 mins and the damn thing would not budge at all... I even kept a hairdryer beside me and no dice.. i ended up taking out a large chunk of the assembly and am pissed off now... i'm putting the project on hiatus until this weekend... ******* frustrating as hell...

one thing i did notice is that my drivers side headlight is not OEM it says TYC on it... maybe they're using a different silicon than the OEM ones???

I know what you mean man, I did mine this morning and had to keep them in the oven for a while before I could get anywhere.

It was difficult for the first one so I turned the oven up to about 250 for the second one. left it in for about 18 mins and it came off much easier than the first. Not sure if this would help you any but it worked pretty good for me.
