Can LED strips be cut to length?
Can LED strips be cut to length? If I were to buy some LED strips off eBay, does anybody know if they can be cut to a specific length without affecting the LEDs I want to stay on. This is the kind of strip I'm talking about.
The LEDs should be ran in series of 3.. So you will have to make sure you cut the series off when you trim.. You cant just cut one out of the 3 off or they wont work properly. So cut every 3 LEDs.. Most likely...
I bought a set of those for my jeep to use as courtesy lights. They can be cut to length, but you should seal the end that you cut. What Im not sure of is how to wire up the remaining leds that you cut off.
Trust:
1) cut them in sets of 3
2) you should seal the cut-off end with something, like clear silicone sealant
3) depending on the type of flex-strip you get, for the end you cut off, you'd probably have to solder a resistor to make sure power to the strip doesn't cause problems
I've purchased dozens of these strips myself (3-LED, 9-LED, 12-LED, and 24-LED) to replace & increase the interior lighting for my car, and a few others.

Verdad Gallardo Unfortunately I don't. I've never had to cut my strips. I do know that the seller I got mine from doesn't recommend doing this, particularly because when you cut the strip, the leads you need to get at would be flush with the strip and difficult to solder.
