Not many suggestions available...
1. Keep the plate off and risk being stopped and possibly fined.
2. Put the plate on and forget about it
3. Move to a location where the front plate is not required.

there was one guy awhile ago who posted a video on youtube of a flip bracket he made with an actuator and a swittch inside thecar, so when he fliped the switch the plate came down out of nowhere. was pretty cool, but not sure if its worth it.

Start a petition in your state to repeal the Front License Plate Law. There is an online petition for that very thing here in Iowa. I don't know what will come of it, but I definitely signed. Here is the link...

BTW this post is in the completely wrong section. Don't be suprised when you find it moved.

put it in the windshield. when they ask why its not moutned, tell them that they dont make your car anymore, therefore they discountiuned the plate bracket. Tell him that you thaught it was the next best thing and you feel that you shouldn't get ticketed for trying.

I looked up the law for my state (MD) recently because I was wondering about the same thing.
Don't see any reasoning sticking it up on the dash wouldn't work based on this.
At all times, each registration plate shall be:
(1) Maintained free from foreign materials, including registration plate covers as defined in § 13-411.1 of this subtitle, and in a condition to be clearly legible; and
(2) Securely fastened to the vehicle for which it is issued:

that's probably your best bet. you could also tint the clear plastic a little - not sure if that is legal in your state, but it could be done so that you can see the plate without it standing out so much. i have a light coating of laser veil on my front plate.
