Not many suggestions available...
1. Keep the plate off and risk being stopped and possibly fined.
2. Put the plate on and forget about it
3. Move to a location where the front plate is not required.

Start a petition in your state to repeal the Front License Plate Law. There is an online petition for that very thing here in Iowa. I don't know what will come of it, but I definitely signed. Here is the link...

http://www.petitiononline.com/ksnpvmt/petition.html

BTW this post is in the completely wrong section. Don't be suprised when you find it moved.

^I've seen that here in Texas a couple of times. I've had mine in my dash, and cops have given me a hard time about it occasionally, but i've never gotten a ticket for it

What about just throwing the plate up on the passenger side of the dash when you're driving, against the windshield?

put it in the windshield. when they ask why its not moutned, tell them that they dont make your car anymore, therefore they discountiuned the plate bracket. Tell him that you thaught it was the next best thing and you feel that you shouldn't get ticketed for trying.

I looked up the law for my state (MD) recently because I was wondering about the same thing.

At all times, each registration plate shall be:

(1) Maintained free from foreign materials, including registration plate covers as defined in § 13-411.1 of this subtitle, and in a condition to be clearly legible; and

(2) Securely fastened to the vehicle for which it is issued:
(i) In a horizontal position;
(ii) In a manner that prevents the plate from swinging; and
(iii) In a place and position to be clearly visible.
Don't see any reasoning sticking it up on the dash wouldn't work based on this.

I agree. I'm pretty sure here in TX the law says it has to be at the very front of the vehicle. I think you will be alright with yours on the dash according to what you posted.

I guy I know put a front plate on. Then called the cops and "told" them someone had stolen his front liscense plate w/ the bracket. The police gave him a written car stating what had happened and that he wouldnt have to have a front plate. It worked for him!

that's probably your best bet. you could also tint the clear plastic a little - not sure if that is legal in your state, but it could be done so that you can see the plate without it standing out so much. i have a light coating of laser veil on my front plate.
