Post #6 has some good info. I wetsanded the hell out of mine, then polished.
Thanks for the plug Scira!
Wow, those 2006 prices aren't any good anymore, ...
Wet-sand, polish, ..., it's that easy! (No it really isn't as easy as some people make it out to be. There's a lot of labor involved to really get a nice finished product.)
i started out wetsanding with 1000 grit and a hard block then moved to 1500 or 2000 grit (either will work) then buff with heavy duty compound until heavy scratchs are gone, clean and polish, then wax and your done. if that doesnt look good enough to you or it has heavy scuffs you can always have it painted black
I removed the filler panel (just a few thumb screws), then wetsanded the entire thing for an even finish. First with 800 grit, then 1000 grit, then 2000 grit. Then I polished it with meguiars PlastX. Simple mod. In fact I would say it was the easiest thing I've ever done. Its almost no work at all. It's as easy as contradicting someone on the internet, even when you agree with them, in an effort to emphasize their comment!

PontiacFan makes a good point here. It takes more time then you expect it to when you start, and if you really want a good finished product you may have to sand it a few times to get rid of all the shadow left behind. Make sure you check it under a bright light, and move it around to make sure it has a smooth uniform appearance. I got one off a wrecked '96 firebird for $5. The decal was gone and all that was left was the shadow I mentioned. It took about 10 minutes just to get that smoothed out and polished. It should take significantly longer to actually sand the bird and lettering off and get it smooth after that. I didn't need a dew filler panel, but i wanted to keep one with the bird on it in case i change my mind.
