That powershot isnt as good as the Nikon that's for sure but the D40 is the base model. I have a Canon 40D which I loved but the best camera I ever had was the Nikon D1x. I wish I could afford the D2x 
. Brian you'd be fine with an Xti which is a step up from your brothers camera.

Yeah the powershot isn't on the same level as a DSLR, but the Nikon Brian used was just a coolpix. I have an XTi that I love, but it is a big step up from the Point and Shoot I posted. Lemons was looking for a good but cheap camera, so I was assuming he wouldn't want a DSLR so I suggested the Powershot.

i have so many things i want.. just bought my rims and tires.. trying to save up to buy a new gandgun and my carrying permit.
want to get a camera to take some pics....

if you really want an entry level DSLR that blows the competition out of the water, get a Nikon D40.
that little camera is a God in disguise. i have one and i love it just as much as my $1900 D300.
it's super easy to use and it takes great shots after great shots. you can get the kit at Wal-Mart or Target for like $450. best deal and the best images out of any entry level DSLR by far.
sister in law shoots with a Canon XSi and continously tells me how much more vivid and sharp my D40 is than her XSi.

your car looks sick. i'm rockin the stock wheels on mine too. we may have to have a "stock wheel shootout" HAHAHA !!!!
