To each his own. I want to rig up a mock design and test it out, if I don't like it, I wont, but for the most part, I like the idea, and want to go through with this...

lol that blue water looks nice.
I used pre-wired LED's and drilled holes into the bottom of the cupholder. I have 4 LED's in each cupholder.

How did you go about placing LEDs in the cupholder? Were they surface mount LEDs?

Why not just cut the bottom of the cupholder off and buy a small sheet of plexiglass. put led's around the perimeter and fasten it back in place? Basically sandwich a frosted ring of plexi in-between the top and bottom of the cupholder. This way it wouldn't be so anoying if nothing was in the cupholder and you could just hook it up to your parking light switch. If you dont understand what I am saying I can draw up a picture.

Anyone consider using a LED strip and just wrap it around the cup holder? Would be very simple, and probably would require less modding of the cupholder itself. That way it could be completely reversible should you ever get tired of it...

Thats pretty much the same idea 6LE was saying except strip instead of halos. I think that would def be the easiest way. I like the halo ring idea too. The indivdual LEDs would be easy as well so any of them would work. I am def doing this. I think it looks sick. I would pu a switch on it tho so I can turn them off if need be but off the ashtray is def the easiest way to wire it.

See this is why I come here. Great ideas!!! lol

Just a quick sketch here:

Of course you wouldn't have to use so many leds but you get the idea. Just cut the bottom off and cut a plexi ring thats maybe 1/2" thick. Tap a few holes into it to sink some leds's into. Sand the inside of the ring to make it look frosted and epoxy it all together. I think to pull it off it would almost have to be a permanent deal to avoid looking tacky. The upside of putting a piece of plexi in there is that it would make your cupholder a little deeper. Sometimes I wish it was deeper so when I take off haulin *** my drink doesn't act like its gonna go flyin'.

I think you would wanna try and stay away from using an LED strip.. 'Cause it'll be very obvious during the daytime and it may effect what can fit in the cupholder.

well heres how im doing mine. just threw it together to see how it would look. sorry bout the crappy pics, camera phone. i did it similar to the grand prix. grinded the led lens where it would fit flush in the hole. hot glued them in. also put one in the cubby hole. it looks great.
when i install it, i will be using the ashtray light circuit to power the leds. that way they will only come when i turn the lights on.

go tthe individually mounted ones. you can get em at like pep boys etc.., dremeled out openings basically the same size/tiny bit bigger than leds in the side of the cup holder, after we took the center console out, and epoxied them in place and since he wanted them on always wired to them to a constant 12v power supply. i'll try to get him to send me some pics.
