I took my stocker and cut it to 8" with my dremel then grinded the tip and put the ball on it. It looks PERFECT! I just made one for my friends 04 Cobra too. If you're interested for pics then let me know.

Sorry.. It has to do with the radio wave length and the tunning of teh antenna.
The stock one is "tuned" ie its length for a certing wave length..by shorting it it your effectivly how it "captures" radio waves.. by keeping it a multiple of teh orginal length you attempting to still optimaly capture the waves that the orginal was tuned for...

i cut mine also, but instread of putting the ball back on i used a grinder to make the end into a sharp point

I used a diagonal cutter once.. then just used some sandpaper to round off the edge....and popped the ball back on

why would you want a sharp point? so you can stab someone lol.

just cut it down saves some $$

should have gotten a bitviper, i didnt notice much of a difference, small yes but hardly noticeable most of the time.
