Default 6LE Canards warping

I got these canards not to long ago and loved it but it didn't line up too well. So I got 3M VHB tape and it worked, it looked perfect for a couple of days until it warped the canards and one side even broke away from the vhb tape. The front and side splitters have no problems but I'm gonna remove the canards and side splitters and call it a loss. The side splitters to me doesn't look right without the canards and I might go back to stock ta gfx if I get the money again. I'll post pics when I get my watts link installed tomorrow.

And to anyone else who got the canards I hope the same thing doesn't happen to you, maybe it was my TA maybe not.

Mike

Why not contact 6LE directly about it?

I already sent him a pm before I posted this thread and and I'm not registered on his boards. I figured I met him on ls1tech and I'll settle it here, not on this thread of course I already pm'd him. I had the canards installed twice with and without vhb tape. It just didn't work, I'm not looking for a refund, replacement or to sell this.

The PM said you scraped the ground with them and bent them... We chatted about flattening them back out since they are metal (they won't just warp from the sun) and trying to make them stay in place with double sided 3M.

The only way the bottom part (x axis) of the canard (that bolts to the side splitter and where you put the double sided tape on yours) would ever pull away is if the top part (y axis) was not mounted high enough and it is keeping the bottom part from coming up flush with the bottom of the side splitter.

I would either:

A) Oblong the holes on the y axis of the canard so you can slide it up higher...

B) Space the splitter down to meet the canard better...

Let me know if any of this does not make sense...

Just in case I am misunderstanding and you are talking about the y axis (where it mounts to the fender and not the splitter) the fender is curved and they are a different curve on different F-Bodies.

You can just put the 3M tape on and push into place and then screw on BUT if you end up having it pop away from the tape in certain places you either add screws to that place or if you don't want to do more screws simply use a round dowel (a wooden bat, pipe, etc...) to roll and apply pressure there to contour them to your fender...

hitman they were screwed in and had vhb tape, the fronts were the problem the rears I could live with but it wouldn't look right if I had no front canards so they gotta go. I'll post pics tomorrow after my watts link install

I don't remember seeing any straight on side shots of your canards just angles and I think we're the only ones who posted pictures of the canards installed besides Mark. I'd like to see another Trans Am with front canards mounted but I don't think I will.

Yeah, I honestly can't think of any other LS1 Trans-Ams off the top of my heads.

Are you sure the guys putting them on just didn't mess up the order (you put up to the car, bend to the contour, apply 3M, stick in place, THEN drill the holes and then screw them in)? If you screw holes without them contoured and mounted in place it would cause a problem like this...

Just sad to hear you're having such an issue with these and all the other guys just doing them in the driveway have had no problems

I wish you lived close I'd just get them mounted properly for you

Really hope you try to just refit yourself instead of giving them away
