Default SS OWNER ALERT-FACTORY DEFECT 2001'S

2001 SS owners,

Why there's nothing said about this is beyond me but there was a batch of 2001' SS's built with DEFECTIVE ROOF PANELS-BAD-RESIN-BAD-PAINT. My dealer has agreed to put on a new roof panel on my SS. Re-painting will NOT WORK! Your dealer must order a new rood panel from GM. Some goof-off on the Camaro assembly line put on some bad resin. Check your roof panel if you own a 2001 SS and if you see a bad orange peel paint job or if you can see the resin under the paint bubble up under direct hot sunlight then your part of that group.

My question is I DON'T WANT ANY SCREW-UPS WITH MY DEALER WHEN CUTTING OFF MY BAD ROOF PANEL AND PUTTING THE CORRECT ONE ONE,,,,, so,,,,,,

I want to take pics of my SS before, during and after the procedure. I am going to ask my dealer if there's a problem with this and I am gonna request I be there in person to watch them hack off the bad roof panel. I want to write up a mini-agreement that specifically tells where there is already scratches on my SS or any problems before they begin.

Am I asking to much or am I being "complicated"?

If your SS is like this please contact me at RLYC@bellsouth.net

I totally understand your concerns, but I really don't think the dealership is going to let you do that. It is also going to convey the feeling of a lack of trust before you give them the car. Granted I don't trust a dealer service department any further than I can throw them but, some of those requests if presented wrong with just evoke bad feelings and they may take even worse care of your car. Basicallt treat some one like crap, and see how they treat you.

I would document the condition of your car when you drop it off, even take photos (with date stamping), and then patiently wait. I remember when I had a car of mine in at a body shop, and I would stop in every once and a while to check up on it, well all that I wound up doing (unintentionally) is **** them off, so they took longer to get the car done. They did a great job, though.

If you feel that strongly against the dealer maybe you shouldn't have them do it. When it comes to body work, even warrantee work, I'd rather pay my favorite body shop to do it right the first time than to take a gamble with the finish of my $30,000 car.

Just my 2 cents.

Imagine how they'll feel when you present them with your "agreement". They see cars all day long and yours is just another one of them even though it's your SS. It's just another Camaro to a dealership. The best way to get what you want is to win them over with your personality and genuine concern for your car as well as appreciating their position in the matter. Unfortunately, communication is dead in America.

Never try to play mini-lawyer with people who provide service. It'll gaurantee that they will hate dealing with you AND your car. Like Andy said, if you don't trust them take it somewhere else.

I can't take my SS to another body shop. This repair is being done under warranty and is free. My favorite body shop who I trust and like would charge me an "arm and a leg" for this procedure.

I have no choice except possibly go to another dealership in another city which I would rather not do.

Wish me luck and thanks for the feedback! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Why would it only be on the SS? SLP does nothing to the roof, so wouldn't it be on all camaros?

my 98 z does that...behind the t-tops, my car is white, but like all z's, top is black, and in hot sunlight, the paint bubbles up on the outside edges...first time i saw it i flipped out, but then, after it cooled off, the bubbles dissapeared...so, i just learned to not leave the car anywhere but a shaded area...IF my car was still under warranty, i may have them fix it, but i dont like the chances of the dealership screwing it up.

Two things, why do you think it was the guy on the line and not a bad product from the vendor that caused the problem, second, why in the world would they need to cut off your roof? I really can't see why they just can't strip the bad and repaint, does your "favorite" body shop agree the roof needs to be cut off?

Restoman,

YOUR'S IS DOING THE SAME THING MINE IS!! Yes, it only does in bright, hot direct sunlight. My SS is under warranty and I'm opting for the dealership to fix it.

You guys disagree with me about taking pictures and documenting the entire procedure. I would like to watch and witness the cutting of the roof and yes, I still want type up some kind of an agreement. The goal is to be perfectly clear on both sides what's expected. No mis-understandins, NONE.

Dark age,

The roof panel must be re-placed. The problem is in the panel itself-in the make-up or whatever it's made of.

Ray, in your words "hack off the old roof", I just couldn't understand why they needed to replace the roof panel so I looked up some of your other posts. I see you have T-tops and the panel you're talking about is more of a trim piece then the roof, there's no way that piece needs to be cut off. I wish I had my Helms service manuals to tell me what holds that panel onto the car, my guess is it's some kind of clips or 3-M double sided tape. Find someone with the Helms manuals or do another post asking someone here if they could tell you what's involved with the panel removel.
