Default Will my DA work as a buffer?

I have been looking around and debating on what kind of buffer I should buy.

I was planning on getting a Porter Cable 7424, but thought about my Snap-On orbital DA sander. The thing has just as much power and has the velcro backing, so all i would need is the compound pads and polish.

this is what i have...

Will it work?

I don't see why not. Can you control the speed on that? That'd be the only thing I'd be worried about

Not that it's the best way, but get a pressure regulator that is at the end of the hose, and then just turn down the psi coming into the DA to slow it down. Then just turn up the psi to get the speed up.

I'm not sure how much air those require, but I hope you have a good compressor considering how much 'on' time you'll have.

It would work , and definately follow the advise given above as u will want to control the speed . I just couldnt see holding it how you would have to hold that . Even though that DA prbably operates better , as in its a true DA with forced circular and jiggling motion( a 7424 or g110 are not true da's ) . I personally would still buy a 7424 or g110 as it would allow more precise control with less fatigue moving over the vertical and contoured panels of the car as well as . With a pad on there it isnt gonna glide over the surface like it does as a sander and think youd have a hell of a time keeping it stable . The way you hold a polishing DA eliminates the control issue .

A PC7424 will work a hell of a lot better...

I would say just spend a little money and get a porter cable, you will notice how well they work after the first time and not care about the money you just spent.

i have the electric Porter Cable (and LOVE it). I also have a pnumatic DA, but unless you have good dry air, water is gonna spit all over what you are trying to buff if the humidity outside is bad. I know it is getting dryer outside, but I know this summer was a PIA with the water vapor spitting all over the car i was trying to prep for paint.
