Default Additional 12v Sockets?

Between the Beltronics and the iPhone, I have reached the stage where I need two power sockets. I thought of simply using a splitter socket, but can see that the handbrake handle blocks most of the ones I have readily available.

Have folks added power sockets on? If so, where did you add them and what line did you tap into?

Don't you have two sockets already?

I personally would hardwire the radar detector.

i was thinking the same thing, if you still want a clean install and not have extra sockets everywhere, use the writeup on myls1.com to hardwire the radar detector. Even if you dont want to cut up the harness for the detector, go to best buy and buy another harness, and hack that one up

No, the car only came wih one, situated right near the handbrake handle end. Pretty lame spot since it is almost inaccessible once the handbrake is not engaged.

Sigh.

Thanks, I feel like I just won the golden goof award. I am a very opinionated non-smoker, and had mentally blacked out the lighter socket.

I saw it this morning and was wondering how dumb this would look. I was curious though if anyone knew what the ciruclar indented line on the right of the console above the power socket was for? Is it a spot for another socket...?

You referring to the part on the passenger side cupholder? That's so you can pop that out and remove/replace the cupholder.

This is what i did to install my hidden GPS power switch.

Use Scotchlock connectors to tap the red wire (from the new accessory lighter) into the yellow wire in the black head unit connector (the stereos main wiring harness). Then you can tap the black wire (of the new acc.) to the black wire in the same wiring harness or just run it to a good chassis ground.

That's all there is to it - plug your satellite radio power adapter into the socket, hide it out of sight behind the dash (with Velcro), and you've got a custom installation.

Now, my GPS comes on when I start my car and goes off with the car....The GPS even goes off like the radio, once the door is opened after the car is shut off.

(there are better "accessory plugs" available that don't have the exposed connectors on the back or the unnecessary cover plug - that was the only picture I could find quickly and the one i bought for $7)

Make that the platinum goof award. I almost never have passengers in the car and the few that have never brought in a beverage.

If you dont want to do any wiring, this could be an option for you. I actually ended up hard wiring this into my Jeep
