I retract my statement on 25 keys. there are only 15 actual vats keys, (i have all 15 on the shelf). i realized what i was thinking was the additional vats style keys that came later, like say on some Buick's etc.

Has anyone tried these or any others? I haven't found much on using a flip key on an f-body.

Looks like a 10 cut double sided keys for the later models. 4th gens use a single sided 6 cut key, even if you cut off the one side it will not fit the millings are different and the key is too long. The Vats chip will not sit in the right spot either, there is a VERY slim window of tolerance. It actually looks like a tip stop key which makes it even more incompatible with the single sided key which relies on the shoulder as a stop.

The remote might be compatible with the alarm system but that's about it. You might be able to get the regular old 6 cut key to fit the housing but it would need to be fabbed by hand (cut off D/S key and head of single sided key and weld the hinge to the S/S key).

For the record there are 15 resistances for the earlier VATS chip but GM never used the #1 chip on ANY car.

**edit**
S/S = single sided
D/S = Double sided

**Before anyone asks yes I am in training to be a locksmith and have worked with these keys for some time. I just cut 2 new sets for my SS today and am waiting on the new remotes to match them.**

For me I would like one of these with the key to unlock the doors as the flip key that way I wouldn't need that extra key on my keyring and it would be part of my remote so I would have that and then my ignition key.

If they could make them for Vettes and saw enough of a market for Fbodies all they'd have to do is change the blank key.

I have looked all over ebay, and everywhere for that matter, for something to try, but with no luck.

Anyone have any recent developments?

I seen one on ebay for "chevrolet clasic" may have to try that one, just dont want to spend the 40 and it not work out. Not really snazzy looking either. Id be nice to get something like the corvette one made for our cars.

Here is the classic one, just looks big and bulky though.

We can trim around the ignition key to see if it fits in this and transfer the fob's brain.

I like this idea. It would eliminate the hassle of trimming the "wings" as well as dealing with the chip on the ignition key.

Actually, Mercedes uses a single fob that goes directly into the ignition, or the optional Keyless Go system. There is also an emergency mechanical key that pops out of the bottom and can only open the doors.

Pass. I will stick with the old stuff. Reminds me of one of the best traits of older cars, simplicity.
