Just like an airplane's wing. It takes the same amount of time for an air particle to travel from front to back on either the top or bottom of the wing. Because the top is rounded, the distance is further meaning the particle moves faster, and thus exerts a lower pressure than is found on the bottom of the wing creating lift.

And on topic: should turn out to be a great project! Just don't start adding in those ugly splitters too

This has been dis-proven but was widely believed for decades. I can't find the video, but a former co-worker of mine did his senior thesis on this and showed me the video. It consisted of an airfoil in a wind tunnel and vertical smoke lines passing by. They came in vertical but left the trailing edge of the airfoil distorted. Specifically, the section that passed over the air foil reached the trailing edge faster than the section that went under it.

Here is a depiction of what you were describing:

Although I can't find that video, here is a nice .gif to show what I'm talking about:

Aerodynamics aside I'd like to see this project come together, let us know if notice a difference one way or another.

In an effort to streamline the underbody. I am ditching the true duals as they hang way to low and going back to a y-pipe, resonator (in former passenger rear seat area), running the pipe over the passenger side axle, and dumping it right before the gas tank and before the diffuser.

Some pics showing airflow under a formula car with a diffuser.

As you can see, the air speeds up greatly (yellow/org/red) as it passes under the diffuser and exits the car.

On a side note, I picked up and dropped of my aluminum sheet today to be cut out. Will be done by Monday. I am NOT adding fins at this point in time. The diffuser is what speeds up the air, fins only prevent cross-wind from interrupting flow and look ricer-ish if not made correctly.

Not cheap but already engineered: http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?i...=FORD&model=GT

Def. But shipping to Canada would be rough... It's 3" true duals made with the Summit universal x-pipe kit, dynomax bullet mufflers, and turn downs dumped before the rear axle. Sounds great but I'd like to try something different.

I am really glad this is still going. I am excited to see the results. I have seen too many "hey, what if we did this" threads. Then the guy quits and the thread dies. Keep up the good work and keep us posted!

Looks like nice progress. Being the 'appearance' section, is it going to be powder coated, polished, chromed or painted?

I'd hope it goes Arctic White to match the car. It would add a nice continuity to the bumper lines. I guess we'll see!

Spray-painted flat black. I expect it to take a lot of rock chips and road debris.

Would like to see the end of this project looks good so far. And how much is it for both bumper supports?

I was just kidding about how you were going to finish it. It's function over form.
