Default Dealer ordered me new taillights, opinion/advice pls>>

The dealer ordered me a new pair of taillights for my '02 Z28 because they were developing the dimples...no blackouts ever either...

Anyways, I talked to the service manager about giving me the new parts to install myself, and then I said I'd bring back the old ones...he agreed...

My passenger side light was really bad, and the driver side one was just starting to show, but it wasn't really even noticeable yet. Here's the problem...

I put the passenger side one in, no problem...but when I took the driver side light out I noticed some chips both on the fender and on the Camaro panel on the left side under where the taillight fits. It seems that the original light had a piece of "flash" on it, and it rubbed against and chipped the paint over time while driving. Now, when I placed the new light up, which doesn't have the extra "flash" lip, you can see the chips because it doesn't cover them over. I took that lens back out, touched up the chips (I didn't like the fact that there was bare metal showing on the fender, and it looked ***), and I put the original slightly dimpled lens back in.

I guess my question is, am I screwed? Due to the fact that the original light had that "flash" on it, my paint is visably messed up if I were to put a "good" lens in. So basically, it seems to me that my only choices are to either keep the dimpled one which covers the chips, or get a non dimpled one that shows the chips. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Do you think I should have them try ordering me another one, and maybe I'd get lucky and find that it may be "defective" with a "flash" lip on it?

I hope this is comprehensible...I'd have pics, but my brother has the good digital camera @ school with him right now...

EDIT: Just to clarify, I didn't chip it removing the light, it's just that behind the old lens with the extra flash on it, it hides it. Apparently it's been rubbing since they built it...

Why don't you just take the car to a body shop and get it touched up. It can't be that much to do such a small area.

My 99 SS has "dents" in both taillamps??? I did have blackouts for about 1 year, did that cause it? I had blackouts on all my other cars without any problems?

They ordered me another lens today, we'll see how that goes...
