Even if you have to remove the top part of the center console, it should take you like 3 minutes to do....get off the internet and get to it! lol I believe it's two bolts under the coin holder, twisting off your **** (if you're a manual), and disconnecting your cig lighter wire. It should just pull out and there you go!

I'm auto, but you cannot see the bulb whatsoever in my case. I can tell the light is emitting from the rectangular opening, but I see no way to get it out. I tried to reach my fingers under/behind it to see if it pulls out from behind but I don't feel anything to remove.

I will just remove the center console and just do it that way.

They actually arrived today (HID Fogs). I'm going to install them tomorrow if I have the time. Otherwise I will have to wait until the semester is over. So much stuff to do in such little time.

Yeah I can't wait to get them in! I love how these bright white SMD bulbs look in the interior. Getting rid of all the yellow-ish lighting on the car has been one of my favorite small things I have done to the car.

I can't wait for the end of the semester for a break! 2 more weeks

It's different for an automatic. JB's ashtray opening doesn't look like mine. Everyone who has replied has a manual. I would like to see someone chime in with an Automatic, but it doesn't matter. I am 99% positive I need to remove the center console to get to it. No big deal.

OMG! You're an auto. Autos don't have an ashtray light. You've got the shift indicator light. Same wiring, different bulb and location. No wonder you were having such a hard time.

Call it a day man, you're never getting that ash tray light out. It doesn't exist in your case.

So why is their a rectangular opening where light comes through? It actually lights up the ash tray lid and I can see the light when its closed. Maybe it is just supposed to act as a dual purpose bulb.

If there really is no separate light maybe I will just cover up that gap so the light doesn't come through or replace the shift-indicator light with an LED.

Talk about a headache.

Can you post pics? I'm not sure I understand.
Btw- if you want to change the shift indicator light:

Hopefully that'll save the need for another 2 page "how do I change this tiny little bulb" thread. JK.

^ I was about to say that I've never noticed that ligtht either. I've taken a lot of automatic cars apart and the only light around there is for the shifter's gear indicator.
