In this particular case though, you should definitely fight to get homeowners insurance to cover it. It'll be cheaper for you in the long run, and if the homeowners insurance isn't in your name, then you won't have any deductible to worry about on top of it (but there again, it needs to be a good insurance provider)
If insurance fails to cover it, drop the coverage and get a better provider. Don't even threaten them with dropping the coverage. Just do it and get it done with so you won't have to deal with this crap again.
