If the weather cooperates I'll drive back over to VFN and we will take more pics otherwise I'll get a buddy to come over and take pics in my alley (threat of snow tonite)... Thanks again to Armando and Lane for letting me stop by in the first place and pitch the idea of both hoods. VFN is one pioneers in this industry, Frank and Vic Mortenson founded VFN in the late 60's when they emigrated from Norway. They basically started making parts so that they could lighten their own race cars. They now supply many major racers including Arnie Beswick and Mike Moran.

No, we finished the hood install at 11pm and most of the shots did not come out very good.
We will hopefully take new ones on Saturday morning.

Hi Layne,
I have a 98 Camaro and really want a cowl hood for it... Something on the order of 3"-4" tall.
The thing is, several companies make a hood like this, but they all use the "classic" cowl design. Boxy with the ridge going up the center and overhang back by the windshield. Just doesn't quite fit the modern lines of the LS1 Z.
I am attaching a couple of pics of the cowl hood scoop I would like for my car. These are from various unnamed fiberglass mfgrs...
As you can see, it is a cowl, but is more "modern" looking. Do you have any hood with this style cowl scoop? Or do you have plans to intoduce one?
Thanks in advance.
Dave

This is a little shorter than 3-4", but you get the idea.

This is exactly what I am looking for... on a Mustang hood...

Looks awsome so far PSJ! I would really like to see it from a side angle on a full car picture. Also why black at the moment ?

Dave,
I think I know what you are looking for....not sure, but we may have something similar. Have you called VFN about this? You'll have to forgive me- specifics about makes and models is really Armandos specialty. ( no kidding, we don't refer to catalogues while he's around- amazing!!)
What I can tell you is that there are many cool, new ideas being tossed around between Armando, me, Frank and Vic at the moment. I personally think it's maybe time for some changes in cowl scoop design, especially with regard to late model body styles.
Just one thing to remember (looking at the pics you posted) some hard or 'tight' radius lines on scoops can appear out of place on 'newish' styles. Most late model 'sleek' designs leave the hard lines for wing trailing edges, etc. Just a thought, you might not agree, tho.
Hope this helps,
Layne

I haven't given VFN a call yet. I have looked at the hoods on their site a while back. I haven't been able to pull up the online catalog recently though.
Thanks for the quick response. My car is sleeping for the winter now. Maybe by spring you will have some fancy new choices for the LS1s.

Kinda the difference between the soft lines of the top hood and the angles in the bottom pic. The top hood is nice, but it is only 2" tall and only for 93-97 Camaros. I would love to see one like it 3.5" tall and on an LS1 hood.

That's a wicked nasty hood. When is that GP gonna start up so we can get a bunch of orders for that thing. I bet it looks even nicer out in the sunlight. BTW PSJ love the fiberglass dust all over your car I bet you'll ahve a good time washign that off.

Looks good John. I went to see my hood being fitted yesterday. I love it. Painted stripes are being done too.

Looks good, but I have to see it in red before I make my descision. The black doesnt stand out enough. I am undecided about the flared back nostrills also.
