Default Rear view mirror/map light (to LED) replacement issue

Everything I've read says to use the 4410-x9 Festoon Bulbs from Superbrightleds. So unless I have a one-off mirror assembly, they flat out do not fit (too short). Anyone out there who can provide some assistance? Thanks....

I'm not to sure, since I have an '02 WS6, but when I replaced the map lights, it took 194 LEDs, and I used the Festoon for the dome light, I had to bend the connectors in just a little so it would stay up there...

Here is a comparison picture:

It's the tapered ends of the 4410-x9 that prevents it from properly seating into the brass contacts. I suppose the contacts could be "shaped" to accommodate the new LED festoons, but it was my understanding the 4410-x9 were a direct fit. Frustrating........

mine was a direct fit after i slightly pushed the contacts in just a little so they would hold the new festoon bulb in place. When I get off work, I'll shoot a closeup of mine installed and see if that helps if ya want me to.

cpo, It looks like you have the 39mm version? There is also a 44mm version that can be used in some instances. It appears your very close so I would probably push the tabs in slightly. Just FYI, these cars have huge variations from year to year and within the same year when it comes to the light guide. I have replaced every single interior and exterior incandescent light to LED's in my 96WS6. I had all kinds of variations of what should be in the location vs. what I actually had to purchase to replace lighting locations.

PS: I can't tell very well from your picture, but it appears the stock unit has collar tab, (or rigid loop, whatever you prefer to call it) and your using a bullet style. You use the collar to draw in the two opposing tabs to make a good connection. Looks like you will need to order the correct unit for it to be secure in the holder.

I used the rigid loop festoons from superbrightleds and I took the metal caps off the old bulbs and put them on the leds, took a lil work but they work great...FWIW

Leds in the interior were one of the best mods I have done to date, period, Don't forget the one in the trunk too

The one in the trunk usually only exists on the convertible cars.

Thanks for the tip, as that's what I ended up doing. Just filled the ends with gobs of solder. Works fine and lasts a long time..........

Picky pic pics:

Sweet, I did'nt even solder mine just pushed on the tabs until they were real tight, but yours is more secure for sure, kudos! Now about that avatar, some purple and yellow (LSU colors) would look nice...LOL ;-)
